SPCA Selangor Volunteer Guide

Volunteers are essential to the continued work for SPCA and further protection of animals in our community. While the work at SPCA can be challenging, the rewards of seeing an animal rehomed or people become more aware of animals and their values, are immeasurable. Your efforts are truly appreciated by SPCA Committee and all Staff. Thank you .

The SPCA was established in 1958 to protect animals in Selangor and the Federal Territory. Today we have a wide range of activities all with one common aim: to protect animals and alleviate suffering. ALL of the following activities would not be possible without dedicated, active and dynamic VOLUNTEERS, these include:

-Animal Home

-Public Relations

-Fundraising

The SPCA’s efforts for animals are based at SPCA Animal Home (Ampang Jaya). The Staff here are comprised of two veterinary Surgeons and an Assistant, one Inspector, two Drivers, five Kennel Workers and two Office/Administration workers. The SPCA Committee are active members and volunteer in Public Relations, Fundraising and shelter Management roles.

The SPCA receives no government funding and relies solely on generous donations from public to fund its activities. Each year we need approx. RM500, 000 to maintain the animal home. In essence WE NEED YOUR HELP, we cannot recue, rehabilitate and rehome 7000 animals per year without your help and assistance. There is always something you can help us with –everything is valuable, no help is too small! We hope that you enjoy volunteering with SPCA; everyone at SPCA whether we have 2 legs or 4. Warmly welcomes you!

Volunteer Procedure

If you decide to volunteer for SPCA, please contact the office using the details below and leave us your details. The office will contact our Volunteer Coordinator who will then get back to you to arrange your interview. The interview is a short introduction to the SPCA and an assessment of your skills, so that we can place you in the most appropriate place. This is the best time to discuss any limitations or restrictions you might have while Volunteering.

Here you can explain where you would most like to help and what you have to offer. The Volunteer Coordinator will explain to you the running of the shelter and up coming Events or dates that we might need you for.

Whenever you come to volunteer at the shelter you will be assigned a member of staff who will be responsible for you. If at any time you are unsure of what to do or want advice, this is the person you should seek assistance from.

*Please note the list of voluntary duties here is not inclusive, there are many other positions, roles and opportunities for Volunteers especially as the society continues to grow and expend. We are always open to new ideas to explore and new ways of further promoting kindness to animals and responsible pet ownership.
